Early life :- Sonam malik was born on 15 April 2002 in Madina Village of sonipat,  Haryana. Her father name is Rajinder Malik and he is also a former wrestler who grappled in Local tournaments, after influencing from her father sonam pursue this sport.

At a young age, Sonam Malik had shown her potential as a wrestler. Under the tutelage of Ajmer Malik, her wrestling career began taking shape. She had taken part in several junior district and state competitions and won medals for her state.

She enrolled at Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Sports Complex, Initially, Sonam used to practice wrestling on the ground due to lack of proper infrastructure, and also the academy didn’t have mats to practice. She’d even practiced on the road in case the ground gets muddy due to rain.

In 2017, the wrestler's shoulder was injured in a Tournament. The treatment continued for about one-and-half years. Apart from this, sonam is a student of Jat College in Rohtak, where she  currently pursuing her degree in Bachelor of Arts.

Last five years , are staying more important for Sonam 's carreer In 2016, Sonam won her first national Gold medal at the National School Games. Next year, she bagged the Silver medal at the Cadet National Wrestling Championship. In 2019, Sonam claimed the Gold medal at the All-India Inter-University Wrestling Freestyle Women Championship in Bhiwani, Haryana.

In January 2021, Sonam won heru maiden senior national title in the 62 kg category by defeating Olympic Bronze-medalist Sakshi Malik at the Senior Women National Wrestling Championships in Agra.


In April 2021, Sonam created history by becoming the youngest woman wrestler from India to qualify for the Olympics at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. She booked her Olympic berth in the 62 kg category after reaching the final at the Asian Olympic Qualifier tournament.
